The Australian Hockey League kicked off on monday with all teams eager to come out with a first up win. This year's league will be a lot closer in competition with the teams outside the top four all securing the services of some international players from New Zealand. The format for the league is also different with it being played over a two week period which is how the olympic games will be played.

My team the QLD Scorchers are looking sharp this year and are strong in all positions. We welcome back ex international player Wendy Beattie who has come out of retirement to stake her claim for a spot back in the Hockeyroos squad for Beijing.

First up we played South Australia who have always been a strong and determined team and they have been boosted by some players who have added some real strength to their strike power. The match was not as pretty and flowing as we might of hoped but both team created some good opportunities and the goalkeepers from both teams were busy with plenty of good saves. We came out with a 5-0 win and we scored some good goals from penalty corners with Angie Lambert scoring 2 very good high flicks. A great win to start the tournament and we look forward to tomorrows match against NSW
